Sworn Portuguese translations have a legal status similar to that of a notarial deed. This means that if your documents have official status and are to be submitted to a public authority, a court or an academic institution, a sworn Portuguese translation must be provided with the signature and stamp of a sworn translator of Portuguese, who acts as a notary public.
